Leadership: First step to success

May 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

Have you ever heard of a business where there is no leader or in a more technical term, a boss? It is quite inconceivable. It is highly significant that in every field of endeavour there is one person who directs them towards their goal. For instance, if you want to change a system within your business, a leader would have to stand out for you to get through the swamp.

The part played by leadership

If you are a part of an organization, you may have noticed how important it was that the subjects have faith on the capacities of their leaders since they are supposed to be the living models to whom the subjects must look. Actually, leadership is required in every area where people are involved. Someone needs to be selected who is responsible enough to lead everyone to set and stay on targets, achieve the set goals, meet the timetables, implement change and so forth.

Putting leadership in the setting of employment, when bringing changes within a business the subjects or the employees would expect to be given improved, sensible, effective decisions and regular if not absolute communication from the leader to the employees. Additionally a leader is required to instil confidence, support and commitment in the staff, improve working relationships and generally strengthen the team.

Consequences of poor leadership

Unfortunately, not every leader has good leadership skills. They may have poor communication skills or lose sight of the direction in which they should be leading their team. It is normal that when the leader is not able to exude any act of leadership then the employees begin to assume that there won’t be any positive outcomes with their relationship. Elements like distrust and apathy spreads through the employees resulting in a lack of achievable goals and direction for the organisation.

Feeble leadership inevitably spreads throughout the organisation reducing efficiency and spreading a feeling of hopelessness which, if it continues too long, will in turn lead to the organizations inevitable decline.

Leadership then is very significant in every organization for it to advance but without it the whole team under the leader guidance won’t be able to function efficiently or operate harmoniously with one another.
